We get to know our students – each individual will have specific areas for development around which written reports will be made once a year. Additionally, every student is offered a one-to-one tutorial with the Principal every year.
More informally we ensure that students feel they are progressing in each of the disciplines and every term in which there is no public performance, the students work on a monologue which is presented and critiqued in a group session at the end of term. This is a vital part of the training.
Progress between the Foundation, Development and Advanced groups is entirely at the discretion of the BSA faculty and it may well be that ages are mixed as we try to group by capability, learned technique and attainment. Whilst we aim always to stretch our students, there is no sense in placing students into groups where they feel they are struggling to keep up – this can be totally counter-productive. We place students where we believe they have the best chance to develop at the right pace for them. This assessment is continual through the weekly sessions, performances, monologues and tutorials.
