A Grimm Family Christmas (14 December 2014)
Audience by Michael Frayn (20 July 2014)
On Sunday 20th July, the intermediate group students of Best School of Acting performed “Audience” by Michael Frayn. It’s a very clever and funny shorter peice, once again showing Frayn’s love for playing with theatrical conventions. The two shows give us the opportunity to change cast members.
The show’s director, Lisa Schulberg, says “It’s a one act comedy by one of the greatest modern British playwrights. Frayn has a wickedly astute and comic style, especially in his observations of theatre, as was seen in his hugely successful, often toured “Noises off”, and “Audience” follows this tradition. Our setting is a theatre auditorium and we get to see a side of the theatre that is often in the dark – from the elderly American tourists, to the drama student and teacher on a theatre visit, from the family out for a birthday to the writer of the play this is a character driven, well observed and enjoyable hour.”
Best School of Acting is a unique theatre school based in St Albans. The ethos and teaching style is based on the practices of advanced drama colleges, however opening its doors to a much younger age group 8—18. Each age group gets to perform their own production each year and “Audience” follows a successful production of “Reality Bites” at the Maltings in March.
